But, that's okay. I don't blame you.

For most of my 15 years in sales I dreaded making calls too.

But, after making as many calls as I have, you learn a few tricks.

So without further adieu...

Here's 5 hacks that will cure your cold calling blues and make cold calling (dare I say) fun.

Don’t Break The Chain

The suckiest time to make cold calls?

When you’ve been out of the saddle for a couple days.

So, what if you just never got out of the saddle?

Try this…

Get a big calendar and hang it in your office. Every day you make your allotted calls, put a red X on that date.

Now, see how many days in a row you can keep the chain going.

Can you keep it going for a week? a month? an entire year?

Who knows?

Your only goal... Don’t break the chain.

Crank Up The Tunes

Before you start your next calling session go to Spotify and put on your favorite upbeat playlist.

Put your EarPods in and get to it.

When you dial out it pauses, when you hang up your music starts again.

Boom. No boring dead time.

Music will keep your mood elevated and dialed in despite the rejection.

Get Moving

If you’re like me, you spend enough time glued to your desk.

Use your call blocks to stand up and get moving.

Walk around your office, shoot some hoops, or go refill your coffee.

Doesn't matter.

Movement will help break up the monotony and actually give you more confidence on the phone.

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have a mini basketball goal hung on my office door.

My record is 36 in a row from behind my desk.

Weekly Calling Competitions

Block off one hour every week where you and the other agents in the office make calls.

If you’re all on the phones anyway, why not do it together?

Track calls and conversions and give a prize away to whoever books those most meetings each week.

This will drive some friendly competition, and give you the opportunity to celebrate wins with the team.

Happy Hour

On Friday afternoons the boys in the office and I head to the roof of our office.

We grab a few beers, a few cigars, and our cell phones.

We bust balls, play some corn hole, and make calls.

You wouldn’t believe the number of meetings we’ve set at our rooftop bar.

A little liquid courage never hurt anybody.

Especially on the phone.
