MRL #018- 4 Strategies To Conquer Your Fear of Cold Calling

I’ve got some bad news.

If you’re not being handed your book of business, you’re gonna have to make cold calls.

Full stop.

I don’t know anyone who has “networked” their way to a $1M book of business from scratch.

I’m sure there’s somebody somewhere who has… but in all likelihood it ain’t gonna be you.

You’re gonna have to make calls.

The good news?

Cold-calling doesn’t have to suck.

It can actually be quite enjoyable.

It’s a lot like going to the gym.

The first couple of days are not going to be fun.

But, once you break through the initial resistance it gets easier and easier.

You just have to get started.

Here are 4 mental strategies I like to use to get over my cold call reluctance and get back on the phones:

It’s Not Just You

Nobody loves cold calling.

It sucks for everybody (in the beginning).

You’re not special. Rejection doesn’t affect you more than others. You’re not unique.

If you look around you’ll see plenty of other salespeople making calls. And doing it every day.

They found a way to overcome their fear and make it happen.

Why can’t you?

Your Prospect Isn’t Special

99% of the prospects you call, can’t or won’t do what you do.

They don’t have the balls to pick up the phone and call a stranger unsolicited.

So, why would you be afraid of them?

The person you’re calling isn’t special.

In fact, they’re probably more afraid of doing your job than you are.

It’s Not Personal

“No” doesn’t mean they’re rejecting you.

“No” means they’re rejecting your offer.

Never take “no” personally.

When you understand this on the front end you realize there’s nothing to be afraid of.

You’re Always One Call Away

Some business owner out there needs help.

They are in pain, and looking for a solution.

They’ll hire you on the spot.

Are you willing to go find them?

Ok, That’s It For This Week

Hopefully, this was the kick-in-the-pants you needed.

In all honesty, I picked this topic this week because I needed to hear it myself.

Let’s get after it tomorrow.

See you next Sunday.

Kick ass take names,
