MRL #052- Selling Insurance Isn't Hard, You're Just Soft (A Rant)

Surrounded by German troops…

My grandfather shoveled a foxhole into the side of a frozen creek bank and hid inside it for over a week to avoid capture at the Battle Of The Bulge.

Meanwhile, I think I’m facing a tough week because I’ve got 100 cold calls that need to get made by Wednesday at 5:00.

Sheesh.

How soft can you be?

Our’s is a generation of coddled babies.

And I’m as guilty as the next guy or gal.

Comfort And Instant Gratification Surround Us At Every Turn

Anything we want is but a click away.

We wake up in our air conditioned houses…

To climb into our air conditioned cars…

To drive to our air conditioned offices…

To sell insurance.

Real tough.

Despite what we tell ourselves…

As Producers growing our book…

What We Do Isn’t Truly Hard

We’re not saving the world.

And we’re certainly not risking our lives.

Again, we sell insurance.

We push paper…

We answer our phone when it rings…

We make cold calls.

That’s the gig.

Yet We Convince Ourselves They’re Mountains, Not Mole Hills

We recoil at the smallest discomfort.

We shy away from the slightest rejection.

We cut-and-run when times get tough.

We’d do well to get some perspective.

In the grand scheme of things what we do is a cake walk.

Take out your history book and turn the page to any chapter you like.

There you’ll find more trial and tribulation in one week than you or I have faced in our entire lifetime.

I Have No Tips Or Tricks For You This Week… Just A Rant.

A rant that hopefully is the kick-in-the-pants you and I need to get some perspective and get fired up for 2024.

No one’s coming to save us.

Nor should they.

Because…

Selling Insurance Isn’t Hard, We’re Just Soft

Let’s keep that in mind the next time we start feeling sorry for ourselves.

If our grandfathers stormed the beaches of Normandy…

Surely we can muster the courage to make a few cold calls, right?

Right.

Let’s get it done then.
